The Hands Behind the Needle

An inside look at the artisans who bring Dastaq’s embroidery to life, stitch by stitch.

Behind every Dastaq piece is a pair of hands that has spent years mastering a craft. In our Islamabad studio, a small team of five to ten artisans works quietly, day and night, transforming fabric into something exceptional.

These are not factory workers on a clock. They are skilled hands trained in hand embellishments, gota, zardozi, resham, and several other techniques. Each method demands patience. A single jacket or shawl can take seven to ten days of focused work. The needle moves slowly, but the result is anything but slow. It is deliberate. It is precise. It is the kind of detail that cannot be rushed.

Most of these artisans have been with us for over five years, originally working with our parent brand, Zunaira Hyatt. They know the fabrics, the patterns, the weight of each embellishment. They understand what works and what does not. When you wear a Dastaq piece, you are wearing their experience.

What do we wish customers understood about their work? That these pieces are not made in hours. They are made in days of careful labour, often stretching into evenings. The artisans pour themselves into every inch of embroidery, not because they have to, but because they take pride in what they create.

The next time you hold a hand‑embroidered garment, look closely. You will see the uneven rhythm of a human hand, the slight variation in thread tension, the small decisions only a person can make. That is the beauty of craft. And that is what makes Dastaq different.
